This one hails from our neighbors to the north but recently a US connection was made so I am going to feature the case here.
Amber Tuccaro, aged 21, went missing on August 17, 2010 after she traveled with a friend and her 14 month old son, to Edmonton from Fort McMurray for a weekend trip.
Amber left her son with her friend that night to go into the city. She decided she would hitchhike there. She did not return the next day and her friend contacted Amber's mother, knowing that she would never not return to her child.
Amber's mother, Vivian Tuccaro contacted the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and reported her missing. She says that they did not take Amber's disappearance seriously, as they publicly stated they believed she was alive and somewhere in the area and would eventually reappear.
Two years later the RCMP would change their tune and state they now believed that Amber had been murdered. They released an audio recording of Amber having a conversation with a male. The man insists that he is driving north on 50th street however, Amber is questioning the direction they are going.
RCMP believe the man was actually heading south-east on rural county roads.
On September 1, 2012 the body of Amber Tuccaro was found by horseback riders in a farmers field near Leduc County. She was 17 minutes south from her hotel. It was later learned that the recording that was released was 17 minutes long. The call had been recorded because it was between her and her incarcerated brother. The jail he was at records outgoing calls. To date her cause of death has not been released to the public.
Several women have come forward and identified a man who they believe is the man on the tape. RCMP has stated this man has been ruled out.
In 2014 Amber's family filed a complaint with the way the case was handled and in 2018 they received a report that called the investigation deficient. Amber's mom tells of how Amber was removed off the missing persons list after only a month, despite not having been seen. It took her another month to get her daughter back on the Missing persons list.
In December of 2019 a Utah man contacted The RCMP regarding the case of Amber Tuccaro. He believed his father was related to Amber's disappearance as well as other missing person and homicide files in Alberta. The man also made a lengthy post on Facebook which has since been removed. In the video posted below you can see him compare the released portion of the taped phone call, with voicemails he has from his now deceased father.
In July of 2019 The RCMP stated a formal apology would be issued to the Tuccaro family for the handling of their daughters case.
Her case remains offically unsolved at this time.
